Connecticut enforces strict tattoo licensing and hygiene regulations.
Licensing Requirements
- Artists must complete 2,000 hours of supervised training under a licensed tattoo artist.
- All artists must apply for a Tattoo Technician License through the state.
- Completion of a bloodborne pathogens and communicable disease training course is required.
Studio & Health Regulations
- Shops must undergo annual health inspections.
- Single-use needles, ink caps, and gloves are mandatory.
- Written aftercare instructions must be provided to every client.
Age Restrictions
- Minors under 18 may be tattooed with the parent or legal guardian's signed permission and photo ID kept on file (Conn. Gen. Stat. § 20-266p).
