Connecticut enforces strict tattoo licensing and hygiene regulations.

Licensing Requirements

  • Artists must complete 2,000 hours of supervised training under a licensed tattoo artist.
  • All artists must apply for a Tattoo Technician License through the state.
  • Completion of a bloodborne pathogens and communicable disease training course is required.

Studio & Health Regulations

  • Shops must undergo annual health inspections.
  • Single-use needles, ink caps, and gloves are mandatory.
  • Written aftercare instructions must be provided to every client.

Age Restrictions

  • Minors under 18 may be tattooed with the parent or legal guardian's signed permission and photo ID kept on file (Conn. Gen. Stat. § 20-266p).
