American Art Tattoo has served Newark, Delaware, and the University of Delaware community since 1990, making it one of the longest-operating tattoo studios in the state. The shop traces back to a founder who first trained through an apprenticeship after being exposed to tattoo culture while serving in the Marine Corps. What began as a small shop in Wilmington later moved to Newark in 1994, settling into its current Capitol Trail location in January 1995, where it has remained a fixture of the Kirkwood Highway area ever since.
The studio offers both tattooing and piercing services, with a lineup of artists carrying on the shop's work today while its founder now focuses primarily on piercing. Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Saturday, and appointments can also be scheduled directly by phone or email. Over the decades the building's exterior has become a local landmark of sorts, having displayed a series of murals, including a tribute mural after 9/11 and a later piece by a respected tattoo artist. Competitive pricing and steady, quality service remain central to the shop's approach for the Newark and Tri-State community.
