Premium Tattoo has been creating custom tattoo work in Oakland, California since 2008, operating under the Premium Arts studio name. Founded by husband-and-wife team Matt and Hilary Decker, the shop has grown into a home for a roster of accomplished artists. It describes itself as a friendly, neighborhood tattoo shop, aiming to make each visit as comfortable and personable as possible while treating every tattoo like the masterpiece a client deserves. The storefront workshop is presented as an efficient, creative-factory kind of space, at once spartan and detailed, reflecting the technique-driven approach that guides the day-to-day work.
Beyond tattooing, the studio's offerings extend to commissioned paintings and portraits, graphic arts, and brand consultation. Matt Decker has built a reputation for reproducing virtually any style or image with skill, while bringing his own original flair to each piece; his portfolio centers on illustrative, graphic black work filled with distinctive motifs. Consultations are available daily between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., and appointments are arranged for larger custom pieces, with simpler tattoos accepted without one. Located on Broadway in Oakland, the shop remains rooted in the custom tattooing tradition it was built on.
