A dagger piercing a heart is a traditional tattoo motif signalling heartbreak, betrayal or love bound up with pain. It draws on old sailor and folk tattoo imagery where the heart represents love and the blade represents a wound or loss, often worn as a mark of survived heartache rather than current suffering. Where it sits

This is a tall vertical composition, narrow at the hilt and widening slightly at the heart, so it suits the forearm, upper arm, calf or spine where that length can stretch out naturally.
