Rick's Tattoos has served Northern Virginia since 1970, making it one of the oldest tattoo shops in the state. Founded by Rick Cherry, a D.C. native who got his own first tattoo at age 14, the studio spent 43 years in Arlington before relocating to its current home in Bailey's Crossroads, Falls Church, Virginia. Rick got his start in the tattoo world in the rough-and-tumble shops of the 1960s and '70s, working alongside people connected to Sailor Jerry, the father of old-school traditional tattooing. Amy has run the shop for Rick since 2007, carrying forward his belief that tattooing should be a fun, welcoming experience rather than something intimidating.
The studio's artist team includes Amy, Bricks, Troy, and Zak, alongside Dee, who handles piercing services. Walk-ins and appointments can be arranged through online booking, and the shop is open to visitors seven days a week. Rick himself still drops by occasionally to greet longtime customers and meet new ones. With decades of continuous history in the same corner of Northern Virginia, the studio blends old-school roots with a friendly, laid-back atmosphere for anyone getting inked or pierced.
