Thrash's Living Art Studio has been part of Rapid City's tattoo scene for two decades, tracing its roots back to a small strip-mall shop opened in 2001. The studio moved to its current West Main Street location in 2004 and later expanded, in 2008, with a sister shop called Wild Idea Tattoo. Founded and run by husband-and-wife team Matt and Cathy Thrash, the studio has grown into a close-knit "tattoo family" offering custom tattooing and body piercing to locals and visitors exploring the Black Hills.

The crew includes a shop manager, several tattoo artists, a body piercer, and a henna artist, each bringing distinct talents to the shop's collaborative, custom-focused approach. The team enjoys brainstorming original designs with clients and takes pride in delivering quality work from quality artists rather than chasing passing trends. Appointments are strongly recommended, especially for those traveling from out of town or visiting during the busy summer season, though walk-ins are welcomed whenever possible. Known for its friendly, hard-working atmosphere, the studio remains a go-to destination for custom body art in South Dakota.
