Living Lore Tattoo is located in Old Ellicott City, Maryland, founded by tattoo artists Robyn Jones and Max Murphy and opened in February 2023. The studio provides a private, comfortable environment for an elevated, industry-leading tattoo experience, aiming to break the negative stereotypes of old-school street shops in favor of professionalism, safety, and art-forward custom designs. As an LGBTQIA-owned business, it strives to be a safe space for clients of all backgrounds, and it is committed to environmentally conscious practices, using certified biodegradable nitrile gloves, barriers, and other eco-friendly supplies to reduce its carbon footprint.
The resident artists bring distinct specialties to the shop. Robyn Jones works in illustrative, ornamental, and painterly realism, in both black and gray and color, with a focus on designs that follow the body's natural flow and composition. Max Murphy synthesizes blackwork with graphic design, geometry, pattern, and thoughtful use of color and negative space to create ornamental pieces. Estella Gorgol blends cuteness and darkness, incorporating delicate, ornate details and fantastical characters rendered in rainbow color schemes. Together they uphold a mission of excellent, custom body art delivered in a friendly, ethical, and inclusive setting on Ellicott City's historic Main Street.
