Northwest Tattoo Museum & Tattooing in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, combines a working tattoo studio with a dedicated tattoo history museum under one roof. The studio's three master tattooists bring a combined 100+ years of professional experience and are members of the Alliance of Professional Tattooists, offering both walk-ins and appointments in a clean, comfortable environment. Clients can bring their own designs or choose from thousands of options displayed on the walls and in flash books, and professional body piercing is available by appointment. Renowned guest artists are also featured from time to time, adding variety to the shop's offerings.
Founded in 2010, the museum portion is the only tattoo museum in the northwest recognized by the Tattoo Archive and the National Institute of Museum and Library Services. Its 1,500-square-foot space showcases a collection spanning the late 1800s through the 1980s, including historical photographs, documents, flash, machines, and tattoo implements, with a primary focus on electromagnetic tattooing. Visitors can take a self-guided tour using narrated displays or arrange a formal tour with the museum's tattoo historian and curator. Admission to the museum is free, with donations accepted, making it both an educational resource and an active tattoo shop.
