Grape Ape Tattoo
739 North 4th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85705
Grape Ape Tattoo is a local tattoo shop and art gallery on Tucson's 4th Avenue, specializing in custom ink, American traditional, Japanese traditional, black and grey, realism, portraiture, small and large-scale tattoos, and calligraphy. Alongside tattooing, the gallery space showcases original art, paintings, and drawings for sale by local artists, with custom commissions available on request. The studio opened in 2008 under the name Rogue Parlour Tattoo before relocating and rebranding as Grape Ape Tattoo in 2013, continuing its growth on Tucson's revamped, rail-linked 4th Avenue corridor.
The shop's approach centers on steady, patient growth built through both new clients and longtime repeat customers rather than flashy expansion. Its history is rooted in classic tattoo lineage, having grown out of experience working under a well-known tattooer known for running a tattoo convention and being a fixture of the Santa Rosa, California scene. That grounding in traditional tattoo culture carries through in the shop's name itself, a nod to a legendary secret purple pigment associated with Sailor Jerry. Walk-ins are welcomed at this Tucson, Arizona studio, which blends dedicated craftsmanship with a laid-back, gallery-adjacent atmosphere.
