DAKINITATTOO is a private, woman-operated tattoo studio in South Philadelphia, established in 2012 and open by appointment only. The studio is run by Masami, the artist and owner, who trained in sculpture at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts before completing a lengthy apprenticeship and working under a mentor for nearly ten years. What began as a shared creative space among friends evolved into the intimate, one-on-one studio it is today, offering a personal, unhurried tattooing experience rather than a walk-in shop atmosphere.
The studio space is simple and welcoming, originally inspired by a school art room, and includes an extra recliner bed for guests who accompany clients. Music ranges from D&B to classical, jazz, or metal depending on the day, and clients are invited to relax, watch their own shows, or simply chat during their session. The name Dakini draws on the concept of the enlightened female practitioner, or "sky-walker," reflecting the studio's identity within a tattoo industry historically dominated by men. Consultations, tattoo sessions, and payments can all be arranged directly through the studio, located near 12th and Snyder Avenue in South Philadelphia.
