Outpost 76 Art + Tattoo Studio is the private tattoo shop of Mike "Poopbird" Groves, located in Athens, Georgia's Chase Street Warehouses. Groves has been tattooing for 25 years, beginning his apprenticeship under Todd "Radar" Gregg after earning a BFA in Painting from UGA's Lamar Dodd School of Art, and starting as a resident artist at Pain and Wonder Tattoo and Piercing in 2000. The 1,200-square-foot studio operates by appointment only and holds a health inspection score of 100, offering a welcoming space for clients of all backgrounds.
The studio specializes in bold, colorful, and nerdy tattoo work spanning horror, pop culture, and cartoon-inspired themes, all rendered with bold lines and vivid color. Beyond tattooing, Groves creates large-scale paintings and custom commissions, has released designer toys with Sideshow and Unruly Industries, and has shown artwork in galleries across the country, including Chicago, New Orleans, and Athens. Pricing is transparent, offered either by the hour for custom pieces or by the piece for flash and pre-drawn designs, with aftercare and a sticker of the month included. Outpost 76 is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
