Idle Hand Tattoo

Idle Hand Tattoo has been a distinct presence in San Francisco's Lower Haight since 2007, owned and operated by Holly Ellis. The shop offers custom artistry in a professional environment that reflects the deep and storied history of tattooing in San Francisco, with a roster of artists including Jason Donahue, Austin Maples, Ross Jones, Gary Royal, and Derick Montez working across traditional and portrait tattoo styles. While staying true to the roots of San Francisco tattooing, the studio also pushes the craft forward through individualized adaptations of classic work, fostering an environment that promotes creativity for both artists and clients.

Clients can walk in and browse over five hundred sheets of flash spanning a century of tattoo history, or book an appointment to consult with an artist on a more personalized piece. Guest artists appear at the shop on an invite-only basis due to limited space and high demand. Those looking to work with a specific tattooer are encouraged to reach out to that artist directly, while general appointment requests can be made through the studio. Idle Hand maintains an active presence on Instagram, sharing ongoing work from its artists and keeping the Lower Haight community connected to the shop's day-to-day creative output.
