Crossroads Tattoo has served the Coralville and Iowa City area since opening in 1997. The shop is led by Steve Barjonah, whose tattoo career began in 1988 in San Diego while serving in the U.S. Navy, where he apprenticed under a shipmate before honing his craft full-time at Avalon Tattoo alongside established artists. Over the decades he has continued learning at conventions across the country, studying flash design and drawing composition with respected figures in the industry, and brings that experience to every piece created at Crossroads.
The studio's team, including artists Steve, Becca, and Bob, works from a shop stocked with thousands of existing designs while also offering custom artwork built around each client's ideas. Cleanliness and safety are treated as a top priority, with state inspection, approved sterilization methods, and an autoclave monitored monthly through a University of Iowa sterilization program. The staff aims to make every visit welcoming and professional, encouraging walk-ins to stop by, browse the shop, and ask questions before committing to a design. Crossroads is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 7pm.
