Cousin Paul's Tattoo Co. is a custom tattoo studio in St. Louis, Missouri, located in the SOHA neighborhood on the South Side. Owned by Laura Bonfanti, who began tattooing in 1996 and has worked in a variety of styles and techniques over her career, the shop operates on a custom-work-only basis, with no standalone lettering aside from traditional flash. The studio's name honors Laura's grandfather and reflects a philosophy the shop calls "Cousinly Love," a commitment to treating clients, neighbors, and the broader creative community with respect and care.
The team's specialties span neo-traditional black and gray and color work, black and gray ornamental and fineline/textural pieces, neo-Japanese themes, fine line illustrative blackwork, colorful and whimsical botanical designs, semi-realistic nature and pet portrait work, pointillism and hatching, and illustrative styles inspired by fantasy, biology, and medieval woodblock print. Artists draw inspiration from sources ranging from ukiyo-e and Studio Ghibli to scientific illustration and folklore. The studio emphasizes creating an inclusive, accessible environment for clients at any stage of their tattoo journey, from first-timers to seasoned collectors, within a close-knit shop culture built around collaboration among its artists.
