Roscoe is a tattoo artist at Cherokee Creek Tattoo, continuing a legacy rooted in Taylor, Michigan. His brother John and their father, Gary E. Johnson, founded Johnson Tattoo in Taylor over 40 years ago, with Gary E. tattooing in the Detroit area since the late 1960s. Roscoe joined the family shop about 27 years ago, initially working as a piercer before building a loyal piercing clientele and later developing his own tattooing style. He studied graphic design at Detroit's Center for Creative Studies and is a military veteran, experience that shaped his artistic sensibility long before he picked up a tattoo machine.
Roscoe specializes in iconic black and black & gray work, stipple-shading, and opaque black and gray tattooing, with a strong pull toward personal, conceptual, and quirky designs meant to make clients pause and react. His portfolio spans skulls, mandalas, animals, and offbeat imagery, reflecting a versatile approach that isn't confined to a single genre. After the Taylor building was sold in August 2024, Roscoe moved his practice to Cherokee Creek Tattoo at the Ford Rd. location, where he now focuses fully on his creative work within the shop his brother built.
