Back Bay Ink Tattoo & Art is a Boston studio founded in 2025 by tattoo artist Mark Vata, who holds a Master's degree in Fine Arts and brings over four years of professional tattooing experience. Vata specializes in realism, fine line, Japanese, neo-traditional, minimalist, and portrait work, creating custom pieces in all sizes, from small detailed designs to full sleeves and large-scale projects. Each tattoo is drawn the same day as the client's appointment, tailored specifically to their body and vision, with a focus on clean execution, strong composition, and technical precision.
The studio describes itself as a living gallery rather than a typical shop, where every design is custom-crafted and treated as a collaboration between artist and client. Consultations are free and can be booked in person or virtually, covering design ideas, placement, sizing, and pricing before a deposit secures the appointment. Walk-ins are welcome daily on a first-come, first-served basis, and the team provides both printed and digital aftercare guidance following every session. Back Bay Ink is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM and is closed on Mondays.
