Key City Tattoo has been part of Frederick, Maryland's tattoo scene since it was founded in 2017 by John Rippey and Gary Gerhardt. The studio operates two locations in the Frederick area, one in the Monocacy Village Shopping Center and a second location in Urbana, each with its own team of artists and dedicated appointment scheduling. Clients can browse artist portfolios by location and reach out directly to the tattooer whose work fits their idea, or submit a general appointment request form to be matched with the best fit for their project and schedule.
The Frederick location houses a roster of resident artists, each with an individual portfolio and direct contact for consultations, allowing clients to review specific artists' work before booking. Piercing services are offered exclusively at the Urbana shop, rounding out the studio's offerings beyond tattooing. Prospective clients are asked to share details like placement, size, and budget when reaching out, after which the artist provides an estimate on timing before a deposit and appointment are scheduled. Tattoo services are restricted to clients 18 and older, and the studio maintains a consistent process for consultations across both of its Frederick-area locations.
