John, a Georgia native and Combat Veteran of the United States Air Force who served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm, had been tattooing for over 15 years before he and Amy opened Skin Fx in mid-2017. The studio has grown steadily since then, expanding from its original 800-square-foot space to a 3,400-square-foot studio with multiple tattoo booths and a piercing room. Veteran-owned, it operates under the motto "The Little Shop with the Big Attitude!"
The crew includes artist Adam "Birdie" Bethea, who brought 25+ years of experience to the shop, along with other artists and staff who have trained and grown within the studio over the years. Skin Fx offers both tattooing and piercing services, along with gift certificates and detailed aftercare guidance for clients. The studio describes its approach as providing good quality artwork at an affordable price paired with genuine customer service, with a culture built around treating clients like family and friends rather than one-time customers.
