Dinosaur Studio Tattoo is a tattoo studio and art gallery located in the downtown Waukegan Arts District in Waukegan, Illinois, just off Lake Michigan. The shop was opened in early 2011 by artist Mark Hoffmann, who earned a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Illinois Chicago and later graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago in 2004. His artistic roots go back to childhood, with an early love of drawing, realism, and watercolors that carried through his formal training and into a mentorship under a renowned artist whose style shaped his tattooing approach.
Hoffmann began tattooing professionally in January 2006 at a small shop in far northern Illinois before eventually settling back in the Chicagoland area near family and hometown roots. Encouraged by mentors from some of the country's top art cities and by his wife, he went on to establish his own studio. For more than a decade, the shop has created custom, wearable art for a loyal base of repeat clients and their families, combining fine-art training with tattooing in a gallery-style setting in Waukegan.
