3rd Generation Ink is a boutique tattoo studio in Houston, Texas, founded by Larry Shaw II, a third-generation member of the Shaw family, widely regarded as America's oldest tattoo dynasty. The lineage traces back to patriarch Bob Shaw, who began tattooing in 1940 under legendary artist Bert Grimm and later ran Bert's historic shop at Nu Pike in Long Beach, California. Bob was inducted into the Tattoo Hall of Fame, served as President of the National Tattoo Association, and helped pioneer sterilization standards and machine designs still used industry-wide today.
Larry Shaw II apprenticed under his father, Larry Shaw, and his grandfather Bob, working professionally at Shaw's Tattoo Studio in Houston since 1993. Over his career he became known for production tattooing and versatility across Japanese, Traditional, and New School styles, along with a reputation for skillful cover-up work and a loyal following of collectors. After stepping out on his own, he opened this intimate, boutique-style studio, bringing decades of family craft and technique into a smaller, more personal setting in the Heights area of Houston.
