3RL Tattoo Studio in Oxnard, California specializes in black and grey tattooing, built around the philosophy that a tattoo machine should be treated like a pen for drawing on skin rather than a mechanical tool. The studio's name comes from "3 Round Liner," a three-needle liner configuration that reflects years of hands-on technique development, precision, and dedication. The approach favors unhurried, detail-oriented work, with an emphasis on designs that look striking immediately and continue to age well over time.
The artist behind the studio began drawing as a child and made early tattoos using hand-built, improvised equipment before eventually gaining access to professional materials and refining the craft further. That foundation shaped a meticulous, quality-first approach: work is done carefully rather than quickly, and clients are given honest feedback if a design could be improved before it's finalized. The studio's work has also earned competition recognition, including first place in the Small Black and Grey category at a Ventura County tattoo competition. Prospective clients are invited to schedule a consultation to design a custom piece meant to last.
