Wild Orchid Tattoos

Wild Orchid Tattoos is a private tattoo studio in Westville, Durban, run by owner and tattoo artist Cat van der Merwe. Born and raised in Durban, Cat studied visual arts in Stellenbosch and fashion design in Durban before pursuing her passion for tattooing. She completed her apprenticeship at one of the top studios in the country, working under two mentors who helped her build a strong foundation and discover her own artistic style, which she describes as still evolving with every piece.

The studio operates by appointment only, with no walk-ins, so each client receives undivided attention in a calm, upmarket, private setting. It is based within a wellness centre, reflecting the belief that tattoos are as much about feeling good as looking good. Whether clients are after something sentimental, confidence-boosting, or simply fun, the studio aims to treat every tattoo as important, regardless of size. Cat approaches her work as a perfectionist, putting her full effort into each design she creates for her clients.
