Metal Machine Tattoo Studio has operated in Cape Town since 1993, making it the city's oldest tattoo studio. Located in the city centre, the studio works as a commercial and custom shop, with artists comfortable tattooing everything from a small kanji design on a foot to a full body-fitted phoenix, using both stencilled and freehand techniques. Rather than limiting themselves to a single specialty, the artists approach each piece with an open, versatile style suited to the individual client's vision.

The studio's artists have travelled abroad to broaden their experience and sharpen their technical skills, bringing an international perspective to their work in Cape Town. Lead artist Derek, tattooing since 1991, has earned recognition at international tattoo conventions across Europe. The studio also hosts guest artists and supplies tattoo products, reflecting a broader involvement in the craft beyond the tattooing itself. With three decades of continuous operation, Metal Machine has built a reputation for combining longstanding experience with a commitment to creative, client-focused custom tattoo work.
