Obsidian Ink Sumner Tattoo is a small tattoo studio in the seaside village of Sumner, Christchurch, New Zealand, just 25 minutes from the city center. The studio is run by artist Ivar Treskon, who has a fine-arts background and moved into tattooing after the Christchurch earthquakes left him without gallery walls to hang paintings on. Every visit begins with a free consultation, with communication between artist and client treated as key to turning ideas into meaningful, personalized imagery. Visitors enjoy free parking right out front and a complimentary tea or coffee on arrival, all within a relaxed, coastal setting.

The studio offers fine-line, geometric, neo-traditional, Kirituhi and other Pacifica-inspired styles, along with Celtic, Indian and Egyptian-derived traditional work. Portraits, anime, realism, florals, animal and memorial tattoos are also specialties, alongside abstract designs, watercolor tattoos, and cover-ups, spanning both black and grey and full color work. Realistic bird tattoos are noted as a particular specialty. Hygiene is emphasized as a top priority, with Bloodborne Pathogen certification, regulated professional-brand inks and disposables, and rigorous cleaning standards. Gift vouchers are available, and session times generally run from 11am to 5pm and into evening hours on weekdays, with some weekend appointments offered by request.
