Horibaku Tattoo

Horibaku Tattoo is a traditional Japanese tattoo studio based in Yokosuka, Japan, run by the artist Horibaku. Originally from Saitama, he moved to the United States at age twenty and began tattooing self-taught while studying in the art department at California State University, Los Angeles. He worked at shops across the San Fernando Valley, Hollywood, and Melrose before dedicating himself fully to traditional Japanese tattooing and opening his own studio in Los Angeles in 2009. He returned to Japan in 2018, first setting up in Kamakura before relocating to Yokosuka in 2022.

The studio works exclusively in wabori, traditional Japanese tattooing, and does not perform Western-style tattoo work. All designs are original, custom drawings created for each client rather than copied artwork. Sessions are strictly by appointment, beginning with an in-person consultation to discuss design, scheduling, and cost. Hygiene standards include single-use needles and ink along with autoclave sterilization of reusable equipment, comparable to medical-grade practices. The studio serves clients from across the Yokosuka, Miura, Zushi, Hayama, and Yokohama areas, and clients traveling from farther away can arrange initial consultations by email or video call before visiting in person.
