Anchorage Tattoo Studio traces its roots back to 1975, when founder Larry Allen opened his doors in Anchorage, Alaska after years spent tattooing and playing music between California, Hawaii, British Columbia, and Alaska. Larry began tattooing as a boy, received his first professional tattoo from Lyle Tuttle, and was shaped by influential tattooers including Cliff Raven, known for traditional Japanese style work, John the Dutchman, known for fine art style, and Bob Shaw, known for machine building. He was a member of the National Tattoo Association and the Japanese Tattoo Club before retiring from tattooing in 2003.
The studio is now second-generation owned, carried forward by Larry's children, and operates out of midtown Anchorage. The current team includes multiple artists working under one roof, offering clients a range of styles and experience. The shop keeps regular hours Monday through Saturday and requires all visitors to be 18 years old with valid ID to enter. Rooted in decades of hands-on tattooing history dating back to an era of mixing inks and building machines from scratch, the studio continues to blend old-school tattoo tradition with the work of its present-day artists.
