Anchorage Tattoo Studio has been part of Anchorage, Alaska's tattoo scene since it began in 1975, founded by Larry Allen. Larry started tattooing as a teenager, received his first professional tattoo from Lyle Tuttle, and went on to be influenced by notable tattooers including Cliff Raven for traditional Japanese style work, John the Dutchman for fine art, and Bob Shaw for machine building. He was a member of the National Tattoo Association and the Japanese Tattoo Club, attending industry events annually before retiring in 2003. Today the studio is second-generation owned, carried on by Larry's two children, who both found their way into tattooing themselves.
The shop is located in the heart of midtown Anchorage and is open Monday through Saturday, closed Sundays, with a strict 18-and-over, valid-ID policy for entry. The current team includes artists Ms Judy, James Allen, Miss Jenn, Dave Miller, Haylee Vroman, and Kathie Williams, offering clients a range of styles and experience under one roof. Rooted in decades of hands-on tattooing history, from mixing ink to building machines in the earliest days of the craft, the studio continues to serve Anchorage with a shop built on tradition, family, and long-standing ties to the broader tattoo community.
