Captain Kerr Art is the work of James Kerr, a tattoo artist based in Arcata, California, who brings twenty years of experience to every piece he creates. He specializes in dimensional color work, science fiction themes, and imaginative spacescapes, drawing on a diverse artistic range to bring each client's vision to life. James values collaboration and works to build meaningful connections with the people he tattoos, treating every session as a shared creative process rather than a simple transaction. His tattoo work can be found at NorCal Tattoo, a shop recognized as one of the best in Humboldt County.
Beyond the tattoo chair, James hosts The Fire of Truth, a podcast that explores the life experiences of people within the tattoo community through a trauma-informed lens. Episodes cover subjects like apprenticeship stories, difficult childhood experiences, death, and lighter, humorous moments from the tattoo world. The podcast is available on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other major platforms. Together, the tattooing and storytelling reflect a broader artistic practice rooted in Arcata's local creative community, offering clients not just striking visual work but a genuine, personal connection with the artist behind it.
