Licensing & Training
- All tattoo artists must obtain a state-issued license from the Alabama Department of Public Health.

Studio & Health Regulations
- Tattoo studios must undergo annual health inspections by local health authorities.
- Strict sanitation and sterilization protocols must be followed, including autoclave sterilization of all reusable equipment.
- All tattoo artists must wear disposable gloves and use single-use needles and ink caps.
Prohibited Practices
- Tattooing a minor under 18 is allowed only with the parent or legal guardian's written, informed consent, signed in the presence of the tattoo artist (Ala. Code § 22-17A-2).
- Home-based or unlicensed tattooing is strictly illegal.
