Norway does not have a national licensing system for tattoo artists, but strict hygiene regulations apply.
Licensing & Training
- Artists must register with their local municipality health department.
- Completion of a hygiene and infection control course is strongly recommended.
- Some municipalities require studios to obtain a business permit.
Studio & Health Regulations
- Studios must comply with strict sanitation laws to prevent infections.
- Equipment must be autoclave sterilized or single-use.
- Clients must receive written aftercare instructions after tattoo procedures.
Age Restrictions
- Norway has no statutory age limit on tattooing at all. The 18+ norm (with some studios allowing 16+ with parental sign-off) is industry self-regulation, not law.
