Norway does not have a national licensing system for tattoo artists, but strict hygiene regulations apply.

Licensing & Training

  • Artists must register with their local municipality health department.
  • Completion of a hygiene and infection control course is strongly recommended.
  • Some municipalities require studios to obtain a business permit.

Studio & Health Regulations

  • Studios must comply with strict sanitation laws to prevent infections.
  • Equipment must be autoclave sterilized or single-use.
  • Clients must receive written aftercare instructions after tattoo procedures.

Age Restrictions

  • Norway has no statutory age limit on tattooing at all. The 18+ norm (with some studios allowing 16+ with parental sign-off) is industry self-regulation, not law.

For official regulations, visit the Norwegian Directorate of Health.
